Dave and I were up bright and early this morning to grab breakfast at the hotel and then it was off to the Historic District. Our first stop was to Paula Deens restaurant The Lady & Sons. They don't take phone reservations you have to go stand in line to put your name in with the hostess for either lunch or dinner.
We arrived at 9:36 and the line was wrapped around two corners of the building. Luckily it was shaded and the line moved pretty quick. Thirty minutes later we had our dinner reservation for 7:15.
Next up was the Old Town Trolley tour of the Historic District. This tour was 90 minute narrated tour of the Historic District and it hit all the big attractions and most of the squares in the city. This was Dave and I's first chance to truly see the city and it is so beautiful. The squares are full of the huge Oaks trees (Georgia's State Tree) that are covered in Spanish moss.
After the tour we got off one of the stops in the City Market area and grab some lunch at Panera. We wanted something fairly quick so we could really start seeing things. We decided to head south down Bull St and the first stop was Johnson Square
Next was Wright Square
On our way to the next square we stopped at the Independent Presbyterian Church which was used to drop the feather from in Forest Gump.
The feather flew a block in a half over to Chippewa Square were forest was sitting on one of the many benches.
Following Chippewa Square we headed down to Madison Square. On the edge of Madison is the Sorrel-Weed House but there will be more on that tomorrow after of Ghost & Gravestones tour.
Monterey Square was after Madison and it is home to the Pulaski Monument.
On the west side of Monterey Square is the only Gothic Synagogue in the United States. It's the Temple Mickve Israel.
The last stop for the afternoon was Forsyth Park and it's famous fountain.
By the time we got done in Forsyth Park Dave and I were both hot and ready for a break so we made our way back to the hotel for a few hours. We left again around 6 to make sure we had plenty of time to get back to the Historic District and make our dinner reservation. We were fairly quickly seated at our table on the third floor. Dave and I both ordered the Buffet. I got Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Mac & Cheese. Dave got the chicken, potatoes, mac & cheese, ribs, and beans. For desert I had the peach cobbler and Dave choose some sort of chocolate cake. The food was excellent and worth the 30 minute wait that morning.
After leaving The Lady & Sons Dave and I headed back to the River Walk and just strolled around. We did make one stop by the Waving Girl Statue.
This Statue was constructed after a women whose lover was shipped out to sea and for 40 years the women would stand by the river watching for her lover to come back, he never did.
So now that I have shared my pictures it's your turn to share a picture or two or more. Just head over to Candid Carries.
