The Building is Burning

If this post doesn't get finished it's because I have passed out or died from the toxic fumes I am breathing.

About an hour ago we started smelling this burning smell in our building. At first it kind of smelled like a curling iron burning hair. It quickly got stronger so we called the maintenance people to see what was going on. Next thing we know there are a few men walking around our floor trying to figure out what the smell was and where it was coming from. I overheard one of the men say he thought it smelled like a light bulb burnt out and was on fire.

Maybe 2 minutes after I heard that our Operations Director send and email title "Smells" advising us that they were aware of the smell and that building maintenance was going to each floor between 18 and 25 to see if they could find the source and they would notify us once they identified it.

While they were searching for the cause of the smell, it was getting stronger and stronger, to the point that it was starting to make us sick to our stomach's and giving us headaches.

So here's my question, why wouldn't you evacuate a 25 floor building when the smell of something burning is so strong it's making people sick and you don't know the cause? It just seems a little strange to leave us all sitting at our desk when there could potentially be a fire inside the building.

They did eventually find the source of the smell. I guess the freight elevators brakes were burning and it was stuck on the roof so the smell was coming down. I'm feeling really good about getting on the elevator to leave tonight, that's if this smell doesn't kill me first!

You work for the government, right?

Haha Carrie, yes I do work for the government but we rent 5 floors in the building I'm in so it's not a government building.

Oh I did make it home ok. :)

Some people don't have any sense. I'm glad nothing was seriously wrong and you made it home ok.
