Kids Bedtime Rituals

We've all seen the family sitcom where the young kid is supposed to be going to bed but has one excuse after another as to why they can't go to bed tonight.

This happens in my house almost every single night and it seems to be worse on the nights that Dave works like tonight.

I usually hear the same excuses night after night of:

I forgot to go potty

I'm thirsty

I want a hug/ kiss

These PJ's are itcy

All of these are pretty easy and quick to fix and get the kids back upstairs and tucked in. Tonight however I was given a brand new excuse from Emma. She came downstairs after being in bed about a total of 5 minutes, complaining the whole time about wanting to stay up, and walks up to me with the sweetest little face on, batting her eyelashes and says to me

" I didn't want to go to bed tonight because I didn't get to cuddle with you today and I wanted to!"

CRAP, how am I supposed to send her to bed after that? I would for sure get the Worst Mommy of the Year award for that, but I might get it for not sticking to a strict bedtime (because they need their sleep). I guess if I'm going to get it I might as well get some good cuddle time with my baby girl while I still can, even if it means she will be a complete bear tomorrow from lack of sleep. So we cuddled up for 10 minutes and then back to bed she went. We'll see how long she last this time.

Isn't that the sweetest thing you ever heard!

Shortly after the first Ice Age came out, my son Trevor did not want to go to bed and he looks at me intently and says, "You have the most beautiful eyes." Of course he got a few more minutes.
